Wade's Gold Mill

Time Needed:	"Plan to Spend Some Time"  The tour takes more than an hour and if you do some gold panning expect to take more time.
Best Time To Go:	Anytime. Tours 9:30 am, 1:30 and 3:30 pm.  from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Directions:	Take US16A East to US16 West to Hill City or for a more scenic drive, follow the Old Hill City Road to Hill City. Take Deerfield Road west about a mile.
Cost:	Guided tour: Adults $8, children $4.  Guided tour and gold panning lesson, $12.50 for adults. (2006 rates)
Highlights:	Nice collection of old mining and gold processing antiques.  Also a working gold processing mill.
Description: This is a seasonal attration.	This is a "living history" mining museum showing how the oldtime placer mines operated and how gold was processed in stamp mills. The old steam powered stamp mill actually operates.  In addition there is a large collection of mining equipment from back in the days when such mills were operated by the placer miners.     There is also a working mill that processes real placer ore.  Each summer the Wades receive seven or eight loads of ore which yields about 1/4th ounce per ton.  If you wish to pan for gold you can buy a bucket of this ore and have at it.      Info: 605-574-2680 or 605-574-2279.  Write: Wade's Gold Mill, Box 312, Hill City, SD, 57745.
