The Roosevelt Inn is a 100 percent smoke-free facility. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building. Although we sympathize with smokers, we are firm in this policy of which we were the first hotel in Keystone to adopt. The vast majority of our guests have expressed a preference for a smoke-free environment.
If you feel that you must smoke while having a meal or staying in a guest room, we will be happy to direct you to another restaurant or hotel in Keystone were smoking is permitted. But we do believe that it is very important for smokers to respect the wishes of other guests who have chosen the Roosevelt Inn because of our smoke-free policy.
Persons who smoke anywhere in the Roosevelt Inn will be asked to leave and no refunds will be given. Furthermore, any guest who smokes in a non-smoking room will be charged for an extraordinary clean-up costs. Moreover, it is now against the law in South Dakota to smoke in a hotel room that has been designated as a non-smoking room. Voters in South Dakota upheld a strong anti-smoking measure by a margin of 65 percent in the general election of November, 2, 2010.
From time to time we get accused of being "prejudiced" against smokers. These people don't understand the meaning of the word. We are completely within our legal and moral rights to refuse service based on behavior. Smokers choose to smoke. They have control over that behavior. They also have the choice of staying elsewhere.
